Student Exchange Spain Ireland

Student Exchange Spain Ireland: a real family-to-family experience

Student Exchange Spain Ireland is a genuine reciprocal exchange designed for families looking for a more personal and authentic international experience for their children.

The concept is simple: an Irish family welcomes a Spanish student into their home and, in return, the Spanish family welcomes the Irish family’s child into their home in Spain.

Rather than staying with a paid host family, both students become part of each other’s family life. They share meals, routines, activities and everyday experiences while discovering another country and using the language naturally.

There is no need for the two stays to take place at the same time. Each family can agree on the dates and duration that work best for them, making the programme particularly flexible.

How does the Student Exchange Spain Ireland programme work?

Inglés y Punto searches for an Irish and a Spanish family whose children have compatible profiles and who are both interested in taking part in a reciprocal exchange.

We consider factors such as the students’ ages, interests, hobbies, personalities, family environments and expectations when looking for a suitable match.

Once a potential match has been identified, the families are introduced and have the opportunity to communicate and get to know each other before confirming the exchange.

Each family then welcomes the other family’s child for the agreed period.

The two parts of the exchange are independent. For example, the Irish student could travel to Spain during one school holiday and the Spanish student could travel to Ireland at another time of the year.

This flexibility allows both families to organise the experience around school calendars, holidays, work commitments and their own availability.

What does each family agree to provide?

Reciprocity is one of the most important aspects of the programme. Both families agree to offer similar conditions when hosting the visiting student.

Each host family agrees to provide:

  • Full-board accommodation throughout the student’s stay.
  • A single or shared bedroom, depending on availability in the family home.
  • Two airport transfers: collection on arrival and transfer to the airport on departure.
  • Integration into normal family life and everyday activities.
  • At least one excursion, visit or special outing per week.
  • A safe, welcoming and supportive family environment.

The objective is not to provide a traditional tourist programme. The visiting student should be welcomed as part of the family and experience normal everyday life in the host country.

Flexible dates and duration

One of the main advantages of a reciprocal family exchange is flexibility.

The two families agree on the dates and duration of each stay according to their availability and the students’ school calendars.

The Spanish and Irish students do not need to travel at the same time, and the two parts of the exchange can take place at different times of the year.

This makes the programme particularly suitable for families who want an international experience but need to organise travel around school holidays, exams, family commitments or other activities.

How does Inglés y Punto select the exchange family?

Finding a suitable family is one of the most important parts of a successful exchange.

Inglés y Punto considers the students’ profiles carefully before proposing a match. We look at factors such as age, interests, hobbies, personality, family environment and expectations.

Our objective is not simply to find an available family, but to identify a family with whom the student has the best possible opportunity to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience.

Both families are introduced before the programme begins so that they can communicate, ask questions and get to know each other before making their final decision.

Flights, airport transfers and travel insurance

Inglés y Punto can manage the flight arrangements for the students taking part in the exchange.

The cost of the flights is not included in the programme.

Airport transfers are the responsibility of the family hosting the student. Each host family agrees to collect the visiting student from the airport on arrival and take them back to the airport for their return journey.

Inglés y Punto also manages the travel insurance arrangements for the programme. The applicable conditions are confirmed with the family before travel.

Spanish lessons and activities in Spain

The main purpose of the exchange is for students to experience everyday life with a local family, but additional activities can also be arranged.

If the Irish family would like their child to attend Spanish classes during their stay, Inglés y Punto can organise lessons according to the student’s level, age and dates.

We can also help arrange cultural activities, sports or other local experiences according to the student’s interests and availability.

Optional lessons and activities are not included and their cost will be confirmed before booking.

24-hour support during the exchange

Students and families are not alone during the experience.

Inglés y Punto provides a 24-hour assistance telephone for participating students and families throughout the exchange.

Our team also supports the families before travel, helps coordinate both parts of the programme and remains available should they need assistance during the student’s stay.

Because Inglés y Punto is based in Murcia and works between Spain and Ireland, we understand the needs of families on both sides of the exchange.

Why choose a reciprocal family exchange?

A reciprocal exchange is a very special way for young people to discover another country and culture.

  • Students experience real everyday family life rather than travelling only as tourists.
  • They use the language naturally at home and in everyday situations.
  • Both families become actively involved in the international experience.
  • Dates and duration can be agreed directly between the families.
  • Students can develop greater independence, confidence and adaptability.
  • They can discover local traditions, food and family routines from the inside.
  • The experience can create friendships between the students and their families that continue long after the exchange has finished.
  • Both students have the opportunity to experience living abroad.

For many families, this type of exchange becomes much more than a language experience. It can be the beginning of a lasting relationship between two families from different countries.

Experience Spain as part of a local family

For an Irish student, living with a Spanish family provides a very different experience from a conventional holiday or language course.

Students share everyday routines, family meals and activities while using Spanish naturally in real situations.

They can discover local culture, traditions and food while developing a much deeper understanding of everyday life in Spain.

The Spanish student later has the opportunity to experience the same type of immersion with the Irish family.

This reciprocal approach is at the heart of the Student Exchange Spain Ireland programme.
